"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young,
but set an example for the believers in speech, in love, in life, in faith, and
in purity." - 1 Timothy 4:12
This is my favorite verse in the Bible, it lets me know that just because
I'm young doesn't mean I can't use what I know to glorify the Lord and His kingdom.
I'm the youngest member on staff here at the Acts 2 Ministry, but I'm not going to use
that as an excuse and run away from what God has called me to do. Instead, I
will use that as a tool to help others and show them that there is no limit to
God's will. God had a 'difficult time' getting me to realize the reason I had
to stay here. I really didn't understand why I did not get accepted into any
college I applied to. I graduated High School with a GPA of 3.2 and a SAT score
of 1230, I thought for sure I would get accepted somewhere. Even people with lower
averages were getting accepted, so after a lot of prayer and asking God a lot
of questions He informed me that I need to stay here and share my life and things
of my past with the students coming up through the program at Acts 2 that are
going through the same kind of things I was going through when I was their age.
After that, my view on life changed. I realized that I shouldn't be trying to
control my life, but I need to give it all over to God and wait for Him to tell
me my next steps! So now I'm here living in a house donated to the ministry and
raising support for my income, which was a very humbling experience for me.
I helped start a ministry call the Middle School Discipleship Program, and in
this area of the ministry we form a bond with the students, get to know them,
and show them how to walk and live for Christ. There are many students that come
to our ministry and become believers, and instead of letting them think that's it,
it's over after that! We remind them that this is just unacceptable!
In this program my goal is to grab the inner city youth and give them a postitive
role model before they decide to go down the wrong path or fall back into their old
habits. I plan to get them into their Word and teach them to be disciples for Christ,
going out daily and share the grace of God through the way they speak, the way they love,
the way they live, the way they have faith, and the way they are pure!
In His Service,
Lamoryae Mayo - Middle School Discipleship Leader
