I love the excitement and passion of Isaiah 40:28:
"Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom.”
I am thrilled that this is the God we serve at Acts 2, and that I can come to you with that same passion and excitement about what He has done and is doing.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? God saved precious souls at Kids Across America! And, boy, do I have a story to tell. Before I start, for those of you that don’t know, KAA is an urban youth sports camp in Missouri. Kids from all over the U.S. go every summer. We took
46 youth and 7 leaders 22 hours on a 56 passenger bus. Good times I tell ya!
But, the reason for this post is to tell you a story of how God moves regardless of what makes sense; nothing can stop Him because He is indeed the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth, whose understanding WE cannot fathom. I took some time the Sunday before leaving for camp to call the Middle School kids that were going. I called one boy and, needless to say, he didn’t want to go to camp anymore for various, legitimate reasons. So, I pondered about what to do and suddenly remembered a parent of one of our youth mention that she really wanted her nephew to be able to go. So I called the family, asked them if he wanted to go, and they said, “YES!” For the sake of privacy, we will call him Brian.
About 32 hours later we arrive at camp, and as I watched this young man get off the bus and onto the camp I just knew God wanted to revoluntionize his life. I was able to visit the kids at camp and would watch them interact with other kids, play around, and enjoy the awesome KAA parties. I would periodically look for Brian to see what he was up to, knowing that he had come from a very broken situation back home. His couselors were so amazing; they would find me and tell me how he was doing and that they were amazed at his genuine faith and hunger and desire to learn more about Christ. They said he was tremendously curious after the Crosstalk (where they share the gospel through skits of modern day struggles the youth face, a dramatic presentation of the Crucifixion, and then someone wraps up the time by sharing what they just saw and how Jesus wants all of their lives).
That night Brian received Jesus as his Savior, along with many other kids. Brian was changed by coming face to face with the Risen Lord. He was concerned about coming back to Roanoke because he knew what he was coming back to in the streets. He asked for prayer and still does ask for prayer. The day we got back his mom approached me and informed me that the night we left for camp one of Brian’s good friends was shot and killed. His mom told me that had Brian not been with us, he would have been with that friend. Unreal, how the Lord will do what it takes to save physical lives and spiritual lives. Since camp, Brian has been coming to our Tuesday, Thursday Day Camp. This includes Bible study and swimming. We just crave for him to get more involved with Acts 2 and for the Lord to provide a godly man to disciple him.
Brian was not the only kid moved by the Lord; there are still other girls and boys telling us what camp meant to them and how they themselves either have more questions about Jesus or that they are ready for a personal relationship with Him.
Please pray for Brian, that the Lord would send a man to disciple him regularly and that Brian would continue to change and grow in Christ, not in the ways of the streets and of this world.
Also, please pray for the rest of the kids that were impacted by the Lord at Camp and are facing coming home to various, adverse situations. Pray they would surrender daily to the Lord and His plan for them.
