Acts 2 Staff

Rachel Crawford

My name is Rachel Crawford and I am the Director of Student Support Services here at Acts 2. I have served in inner city ministry for five years and in full time ministry for a little over a year. I am married to Steve and we have 6 children. We live in Daleville, VA. I enjoy being a soccer, football, basketball, and baseball mama. Here at Acts 2 my goal is 2 things. One, to play the background in the organizing of staff and some development here at Acts 2. The other thing is to fight boredom with both hands! I believe kids have too much free time and my goal is to make sure we do as much as we can to fight against the things that can happen in that time of boredom. Giving the students a peek into what a relationship with Christ looks like and then after they fall in love with the Lord, giving them the tools to keep their relationship strong. It is an honor to be called as a servant in this great city! I am looking forward to the year and what it holds for all of us. *HopeIsEverything

Njeri Camphor

Motivated by the encouragement of Matthew 6:33, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all things will be given to you as well", I have found my calling to be with Acts 2 Ministry. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia along with my four other siblings while being raised by my mother and the media. Sports has always possessed a special place in my heart due to the great influence it had upon my character development. I invested tons of time and energy into baseball that provided me with several athletic scholarships toward college. In my junior year in high school I encountered the matchless and majestic love of Jesus Christ. My life altering committment to follow after God's heart led me to enroll at Liberty University where I am currently finishing my bachelor's degree in Sports Management. A series of events would connect me to Acts 2 Ministry. However, it was at Kids Across America that I discovered a great attraction to the compassionate service and selfless efforts of Acts 2 Ministry. After observing the fantastic committment that the staff members displayed, God confirmed that I should join Acts 2 Ministry where his hand is at work.

Love, Peace, and Jesus,

 Lamoryae Mayo

“What's up?” I am Lamoryae Mayo and I'm the Middle School Discipleship Leader. I came up through the Ministry here at Acts 2 starting in 4th  through 12th grade. I really wanted to go to college but that's not what God wanted. For a while I didn't know why I was going to have to stay here but then God put it on my heart that people are growing up in the same situation I was in and they are going to need some of the positive infuences I had. So, after realizing the people that helped me were gone from Acts 2 and I realized I was left to impact students. So, God started tugging on my heart telling me to stay and help other students out. My hope is that all of my students and qthose around me recognize there are other solutions aside from what's normal to them and that choosing what's different, with God, is not a bad thing! *HopeISEverything

Josh Green

My name  is Josh Green and I recently graduated from Lord Botetourt High School and the Roanoke Valley Governor’s school in June of 2011. I was accepted to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill but felt God leading me toward taking a gap year and working at Acts 2. By the grace of God, I was able to defer my admission until the fall of 2012 and am excited to be spending a year as the In-School Service Director at Acts 2. I am privileged to be able to spend this year serving with a staff that is called to the inner-city and passionate about the work of Christ.

I am thankful to be a part of a family that has ‘everything in common’ and shares my desire to see the name of Jesus glorified. I am also an active member at Bonsack Baptist Church and enjoy leading Bible studies, singing in the choir, and worshipping with other believers. I am proud to be a part of a church that not only supports my calling to the city, but also takes seriously the responsibility to be the hands and feet of Jesus to a dark world.

Though God has only given me a very short window of time to be a part of what He is doing at Acts 2, I have several major hopes for the 2011-2012 school year. First, my most immediate desire is to run the After School Program with Christ-like excellence: for volunteers to be plugged in and appreciated, for students to be encouraged toward academic and spiritual achievement, and for God to be glorified through my work. More basically, however, I hopes to mirror Christ to the students I encounter this year and to share God’s heart for the broken. My greatest desire is to conduct myself in a manner worthy of the amazing gospel of Christ that has transformed my heart and life. I sincerely hopes that you will partner with me and Acts 2 by giving of your time and prayers to further the work of Jesus in Roanoke.

“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”

Amy Leggett

My name is Amy Leggett and I am the Office Manager here at Acts 2. I grew up here in Roanoke and graduated from James Madison University in December 2009 with a degree in Social Justice. That experience left me with a passion for justice and children. Last year I had the privilege of spending a year serving, living with and loving on the people of inner city Houston, TX. I am so excited to be back in Roanoke and be able to continue the work that God laid on my heart to give my life to. I am daily amazed by the ways that God shows His faithfulness and I know that He will continue to provide for all of my needs. I am convinced that everything in my life; every experience I have had, all the good and bad decisions that I have made, EVERYTHING can and is being used by God to serve His purpose.

And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose" Romans 8:28

Middle School Discipleship Leader for the Girls

I had no idea I would be where I am now. My original plan was on my plan not on God's plan. I was going to attend Liberty University. It was my dream school most definitely, but apparently God had other plans, I was rejected from Liberty. I didn't quite get it then, but now I’m so thankful for that rejection. It had been on my heart to volunteer with Acts 2, but for some time I didn't think I was going to get the chance to. So I started feeling like maybe Acts 2 wasn't where I was supposed to be. Then, I was texting Rachel Crawford one day and out of the blue she asked me would I like to talk about volunteering or working at Acts 2,  Wow! Talk about a God moment! Just when I thought the door to Acts 2 had closed,  he opened it right back up. My first thought; is am I worthy? Then, can I do this?  Is this where God wants me? I prayed diligently for weeks searching for an answer, a painfully obvious one. I wasn't getting that obvious answer until one day I was reading my devotional and it was talking about when Jesus calls us to come he is really calling us to act, so for days I was going back and forth about this, thinking Lord are you telling me to act? But still that wasn't enough for me so I continued to pray and fight the Lord and I kept saying Lord if you don't want me at Acts 2 please close that door! But he didn’t instead allowed things to fall in place even more, by allowing broken relationships to be mended & by putting it on Mrs. Rachel's heart to get me into the ministry. After all my debating and doubting I am the newest edition to the Acts 2 staff, and I truly feel this is where I’m supposed to be. Now, that I have taken this step I’m praying for boldness, my journey has just begun, but I’m excited to see the places that God will take me within this ministry.
