Acts 2 Staff

Philip Clements

I'm Philip Clements, the Executive Director here at Acts 2. In this role I strive to achieve the vision of the ministry by setting and directing ministry goals and objectives, providing leadership and support to staff and volunteers, and ultimately shaping the way students and their families think about their faith, values, and purpose in life – through discipleship, relevant teaching, and leadership.

I have worked in youth and young adult ministry for the past 6 years. Before accepting my call to ministry, I served in the U.S. Army and worked for and supported government agencies in Washington, DC and Charleston, SC. I was called to Acts 2 at the end of 2011. I grew up in the Roanoke area and, as a young child, I was a victim of poverty and neglect in the inner-city of Roanoke. Through the love of Christ, my life was turned around and now, as an adult, I have been given this opportunity to return to Roanoke and be a part of the great work being done here at Acts 2.

It is my vision to develop a community of believers who are prepared to live Biblical lives, following Christ with all of their hearts, minds, bodies and souls and leading others to Him.

"Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." -Romans 12:2

 Lamoryae Mayo

“What's up?” I am Lamoryae Mayo and I'm the Discipleship Leader. I came up through the Ministry here at Acts 2 starting in 4th  through 12th grade. I really wanted to go to college but that's not what God wanted. For a while I didn't know why I was going to have to stay here but then God put it on my heart that people are growing up in the same situation I was in and they are going to need some of the positive infuences I had. So, after realizing the people that helped me were gone from Acts 2 and I realized I was left to impact students. So, God started tugging on my heart telling me to stay and help other students out. My hope is that all of my students and qthose around me recognize there are other solutions aside from what's normal to them and that choosing what's different, with God, is not a bad thing! *HopeISEverything

Amy Leggett

My name is Amy Leggett and I am the Office Manager here at Acts 2. I grew up here in Roanoke and graduated from James Madison University in December 2009 with a degree in Social Justice. That experience left me with a passion for justice and children. Last year I had the privilege of spending a year serving, living with and loving on the people of inner city Houston, TX. I am so excited to be back in Roanoke and be able to continue the work that God laid on my heart to give my life to. I am daily amazed by the ways that God shows His faithfulness and I know that He will continue to provide for all of my needs. I am convinced that everything in my life; every experience I have had, all the good and bad decisions that I have made, EVERYTHING can and is being used by God to serve His purpose.

And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose" Romans 8:28

Malik Sims

My name is Malik Sims and I am a Program Support Specialist at the Acts 2 Ministry. I grew up in Southwest Roanoke, in the hood, and being in foster care didn’t make it any easier. Dealing with anger and bitterness, I struggled with believing in God until I met a friend and we started going to Acts 2. I went to camp with Acts 2 and there I decided to accept Jesus. Since then I have been committed to serving the Lord through my music and through ministry. When I graduated high school I left for the military but was discharged a year later for health problems so I came back to Roanoke. I prayed for the Lord to guide me and show me what he wanted me to do with my life. Since then I have been working at the ministry, loving the students, and sharing Christ.

Austin Ertel

I’m Austin Ertel, the Director of Outreach Programs here at The Acts 2 Ministry. I was born and raised in Roanoke until I went to college at Liberty University. I was saved early in high school, then and after being heavily involved in ministry in my church, I sought to go into ministry and to spread the glory of God. Just this spring I received my bachelor’s degree of Science in Religion. My focus at Liberty University was the background and depth of the bible. I also learned about ministry as I served as an interim youth pastor during my junior year. My job here at Acts 2 is to serve the students through coordinating events and serving through all student interactions. God has given me a deep passion to see the lives of students changed. I pray that the power and love of Christ would be the center of their lives and that they would seek to spread the fame of His name. God’s sovereignty is evident throughout the city of Roanoke as the gospel is going forth into the broken homes of the inner city. This is my greatest desire for Acts 2, that as a ministry we would infiltrate the hearts that need Christ.

And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. (Colossians 1:17-20)
